New Companies House rules are now in force

From 18 November 2025, identity verification became a legal requirement for UK company directors and people with significant control. To continue filing and managing company records without disruption, affected individuals must verify their identity and use their Companies House personal code when required.

Not completing verification on time can lead to filing restrictions, financial penalties, enforcement action, or prosecution through the courts.

  • Prevent filing delays
  • Avoid disruption to company records
  • Protect against unauthorised company filings
  • Reduce the risk of penalties

Frequently asked questions

What happens after I pay?

After payment, you will be taken to the online identity check. Once the check is completed, Qpact reviews the verification status and submits the required details as a Companies House authorised agent.

How long should I allow for the full process?

The online identity check is usually completed in around 10 minutes. Please allow up to 2 working days for Qpact review, authorised submission and Companies House processing.

What documents or details will I need?

You will usually need a valid identity document, such as a biometric passport, UK photo driving licence, UK biometric residence document, or Frontier Worker permit. You may also be asked for personal details needed to complete the online check. The exact requirements can vary depending on your personal situation, document type, and verification route.

What if my ID check is not successful?

If your online ID check is not successful, Qpact will review the status and contact you to explain the next steps. Some cases may require additional information or a new verification attempt, which we will guide you through at no additional cost.

Can overseas directors or PSCs use Qpact?

Yes. Overseas directors and PSCs involved in UK companies can use an authorised agent route, provided they can complete the required identity and sanctions check.

Does Qpact issue the personal code?

No. Qpact submits the required verification details as an authorised agent. The personal code is issued directly by Companies House via email after your verification is processed. Qpact does not receive, view, or store your personal code, so you should keep it safe once it arrives.

Is this the same as verifying directly through GOV.UK One Login?

No. GOV.UK One Login is an alternative government route for identity verification. It can involve account setup, multiple identity checks, and a route based on your document type, device, and circumstances. For some users, this may not feel straightforward. Qpact provides a separate Companies House authorised agent route with a simple online process, verification review, and authorised submission included. The outcome is the same: your identity is verified for Companies House and your personal code is issued after processing.

Does Qpact store my identity documents or personal code?

Qpact does not store your personal code or identity documents. The identity check is completed through our verification provider, and Qpact handles only the details required for review, authorised submission and legal record-keeping obligations.
